Last updated: 4 November 2026

1. Introduction

At Courageous Art Therapy, your privacy matters. Whether you're accessing art psychotherapy, joining a creative workshop, exploring BEYOND or simply getting in touch, I want you to feel confident about how your personal information is handled. This Privacy Policy explains what information I collect, why I collect it, how it is protected and the choices you have regarding your personal data.

Courageous Art Therapy is operated by Nina Tara, an HCPC-registered Art Psychotherapist. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Courageous Art Therapy is the data controller for personal information collected directly through its services.

2. Information I collect

Depending on how you interact with Courageous Art Therapy, I may collect:

  • Your name and contact details, including your email address and telephone number.

  • Information you provide through website enquiries, registration forms or questionnaires.

  • Membership preferences and participation information.

  • Workshop bookings, attendance and relevant communications.

  • Payment and transaction information.

  • Information you voluntarily share during creative activities or discussions.

  • Information relating to art psychotherapy, where applicable.

The information collected will depend on the service you choose to access.

3. Art psychotherapy and confidential information

If you access individual art psychotherapy, I may collect sensitive personal information relevant to providing a safe, professional and appropriate service. This may include information about your emotional wellbeing, personal history, relationships, health and circumstances. Therapy records are handled separately from general membership and marketing information. Information shared during therapy is treated confidentially and handled in accordance with applicable data protection legislation, HCPC professional standards and relevant safeguarding obligations.

Confidentiality may need to be limited where there is a serious risk of harm, a safeguarding concern or a legal requirement to disclose information. Where appropriate and safe, this will be discussed with you.

Art psychotherapy records are not used for marketing purposes.

4. BEYOND creative memberships

BEYOND is a creative exploration community offering different levels of participation, including CREATE, EXPLORE and CONNECT+.

When you register or join a membership, your information may be used to:

  • Set up and manage your membership.

  • Provide access to relevant resources and activities.

  • Communicate about sessions, creative invitations and membership updates.

  • Manage payments and subscriptions where applicable.

  • Respond to questions or requests for support.

BEYOND is a creative membership programme and is not a substitute for individual art psychotherapy.

5. Save Me a Seat interest list

If you join the BEYOND interest list, I collect your name, email address and the membership options you're interested in.

This information is used to manage your enquiry and contact you about the relevant membership launch.

Joining the interest list is free and does not guarantee a membership place.

You may also choose to receive wider email updates about BEYOND. This is optional and you can unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time.

6. Why I use your information

I process personal information where there is an appropriate lawful basis under UK data protection legislation.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include:

  • Contract: to provide services, memberships or workshops you have requested.

  • Consent: for optional marketing communications and other activities requiring consent.

  • Legitimate interests: to respond to enquiries, administer the business and maintain appropriate communications, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.

  • Legal obligations: to meet accounting, safeguarding, supervision and other applicable legal requirements.

Where sensitive health or therapy information is processed, an additional lawful condition is required. This will depend on the nature of the service and the applicable legal and professional requirements.

7. Email communications

If you choose to subscribe to newsletters or promotional updates, I may contact you about:

  • New creative workshops and resources.

  • BEYOND membership opportunities.

  • Events, projects and creative invitations.

  • Relevant Courageous Art Therapy news.

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link provided or by contacting me directly.

Essential communications relating to a service you have requested may still be sent where necessary.

8. Payments and third-party providers

Courageous Art Therapy uses external platforms and service providers to operate its website and deliver services.

These may include website hosting, membership management, payment processing, email communications, video meetings and event bookings. For example, the website uses Wix for website and membership functionality.

Relevant information may be processed by these providers where necessary to deliver the service.

Payment card information is handled through the relevant payment provider rather than being stored directly by Courageous Art Therapy. Where providers process information outside the UK, appropriate data protection safeguards must be in place.

9. How information is stored and protected

I take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure. Access to confidential information is restricted to those with a legitimate need to access it.

Information is retained only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including applicable legal, professional and safeguarding requirements. Therapy records may be subject to different retention requirements from ordinary website enquiries or membership information.

10. Cookies and website analytics

The Courageous Art Therapy website may use cookies and similar technologies to support website functionality, security and visitor experience. Some cookies are essential for the website to operate. Other cookies, such as those used for analytics or marketing, may require your consent. Where required, you will be given a choice about non-essential cookies.

11. Your data protection rights

Under UK data protection law, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to personal information held about you.

  • Ask for inaccurate information to be corrected.

  • Request deletion of your information in certain circumstances.

  • Request restrictions on how your information is used.

  • Object to certain processing activities.

  • Request transfer of your information where applicable.

  • Withdraw consent where consent is the lawful basis for processing.

These rights are subject to applicable legal and professional requirements, including obligations relating to confidential clinical records. You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

13. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect changes in services, technology or legal requirements.

The latest version will be available on the Courageous Art Therapy website.
